Autumn Weekend 2021

 A Date for your diary!

Autumn Weekend – 22 – 24 October 2021

AGM & Autumn Weekend

By Mike Elliott

As you will already be aware, our SPS Spring weekend 2020 has now morphed into the SPS Autumn Weekend 2021. Shortage of staff due to COVID has now forced the hotel to change the booking arrangements and instead of using the hotel’s usual arrangements we will be using the Scandinavia Philatelic Society’s usual arrangements. It will still now be held on 22nd to 24th October 2021 at:

The Abbey Hotel, Redditch,

Hither Green Lane,

Dagnall End Road,

REDDITCH, B98 9BE

Tel: 01527 406600

email: events@theabbeyhotel.co.uk

The hotel has been most helpful in seeing us through the postponements that COVID has forced upon us but unfortunately it has now forced them to amend our arrangements for bookings as their staff are very limited in numbers and are therefore overwhelmed.

Booking forms, (see below), must now be submitted to me as usual by post or by email and I will provide the hotel with a rooming list. Please DO NOT therefore phone the hotel directly. Booking details are also on the SPS website. The pricing structure remains:

  • Single – 2 Nights Friday and Saturday – D B & B – £208
  • Double or Twin – 2 Nights Friday and Saturday – D B & B – £276
  • Extra nights Thursday or Sunday – £85 per person per night D B & B.
  • Day Delegate Rate – Saturday and Sunday – £11 per day. (This will be collected by me and I will account for it to the hotel.)

It is intended to have a full weekend’s programme through to Sunday afternoon and, if our past experience at this hotel is repeated, we should have a very good weekend. I hope to see as many of you as possible!

Directions

The Abbey Hotel is situated on the northern boundary of Redditch town between Beoley village and Bordesley village. It is five minutes’ drive from the M42 (J2) and 15 minutes from the NEC and Birmingham Airport. Stratford and Birmingham City Centre are only about 20 minutes’ drive.

Redditch was a designated new town which was established in 1964 and it now enjoys a successful mix of old and new. There are many facilities and attractions around the area for partners and family who are not taking part in the philatelic side of the weekend, to enjoy and the hotel offers discounted tickets for  a host of popular local and Birmingham attractions including Cadbury World and West Midland Safari Park. You can also visit the Black Country Museum, Biscester Village or Hatton Country World.
