Spring Weekend

The Spring weekend was held on Friday 16th March to Sunday 18th March at the Abbey Hotel Golf and Spa in Redditch. A full report will appear here shortly.

The event was supported by members and guests and a mini beast from the east as we awoke on the Sunday morning to a golf course vista covered in snow!

Other headline announcements:

  • The new constitution was adopted at the EGM which was held immediately before the AGM
  • Pat Adams (our current programme secretary) was nominated and confirmed as our new President. Her position will under the terms of our new constitution now run for a period of one year.

  • Peter Hellberg was the recipient of this years Norden Award for his contribution of his part work on Swedish ‘Premium Service, Postförskott’.
  • Other Officers were re-elected as were co-opted members of council with the addition of our past president John Perry.

Full details with minutes to follow shortly.

Our guest speaker (and fellow member), Josh Spoor presented a First Class display on the subject of

Dates for your diary

Spring Weekend – 5th to 7th April 2019

Our SPS Spring Weekend 2019 will be held on 5th to 7th April 2019,  which is our usual weekend 2 weeks before Easter. It will be held at:

The Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate, Swan Road, HARROGATE, HG12 2SR.

This hotel has been recommended to me by another specialist society. They enjoyed it enough to go back for a second time.

We will be reverting to our old booking arrangements where arrangements will be made by me and I will supply the hotel with a rooming list as at 31 January 2019.

The finances of the weekend will again be changed. There’s only a small differential between singles and doubles, and the club will once again be picking up the charge for the event rooms, so there will be no rooming subsidy.

Single – 2 Nights Friday and Saturday – D B & B – £230

Double room for single occupancy – D B & B – £250

Double or Twin – 2 Nights Friday and Saturday – D B & B – £270

Extra nights Thursday or Sunday –  Same nightly rates for D B & B are available.

Day Delegate Rate – Saturday and Sunday – £10 per day.

Finger buffet lunches – £13.95 per person per day.

It is intended to have a full weekend’s programme through to Sunday afternoon and, if my past experience at this hotel is repeated, we should have a very good weekend. I hope to see as many of you as possible!

You may be aware that Agatha Christie went missing for 11 days in 1926. This is the hotel that she went to. You will be relieved to know that I’m not going to turn our event into a ‘murder and mystery’ weekend!

Full details, as usual, will be in the December issue of Contact.
